What can we do to maintain our Heating & Air Systems throughout the year?

Maintaining your Heating & Air System throughout the year is important for prolonging your system as well as reducing your electric bill and repair service charges. The simplest things can be surprisingly easy. 1. You must clean your air vents once a month at least. 2. Change your air filter(s) once a month or more during high volume times of summer and winter. If you have a permanent filter then wash and dry it. 3. Keep the thermostat free of dust 4. Keep the outside Air Unit free from debris, vegetation and small animals

What do I do if my coil is frozen?

The easiest answer is to turn off your system and allow the area where your filter is to defrost. The air filter must be cleaned or replaced once it has defrosted. And you should clean and dried the entire area surrounding the coil assembly to prevent mold.

When should I call for repair or service?

Of course you want to call for repair or service if the unit is no longer heating or cooling, refuses to start, or you suspect that there is a hole in your duct work. Even if you have done all your maintenance activities throughout the year things happen and should be seen to by a professional.

What is are the main parts of a Heating & Air System?

In simple terms there are 4 parts to any heating and air conditioning systems. The unit outside or the compressor, the unit inside or the coil, the duct system and the thermostat.

What is a compressor?

A compressor is a unit that is outside of the house. It is an engine that drives the Heating and Air Conditioning System. It is where the freon is inserted and should be always be kept free of debris.

What is a coil?

The coil is located in the house usually inside a closet or sometimes in an attic space. It houses one of the filters and has a vent to keep the air flow moving in and out. Sometimes it may ice up when the unit is used too much during the summer. And much be kept clean from dust build up.

What is a thermostat?

A thermostat is a small device that is really a small computer that switches on the system, changes it from cold to heat and starts and stops at the air when it reaches the set temperature.

What are air ducts?

The air ducts are an enclosed piping system surrounded by insulation materials to keep the air running through them cool or hot depending on the needs at the time. The ducts are connected to each room via a vent and should be kept free of dust. If any part of the system develops holes then the air is flowing up in the ceiling and not getting to your rooms and must be replaced.
